# Now

*Brno, Czechia. Last steeped: 2 October 2026.*

This is a [now page](https://nownownow.com/about) - what I'd tell you if we hadn't talked in a year.

## First steep: work

- Since late September I've been building a clinical-research data lake for a large consultancy's client. Python, AWS, Terraform, a lot of events going from one place to another. One trip to Prague for onboarding, a laptop, a lanyard I'll never wear again. Still fully remote.
- The rest of the week: back-office systems for specialty insurance and legal-services firms, for the moment case volume outgrows spreadsheets and three inboxes. [How I work](/work).
- Writing twice a week in [Posts](/p/t/). Next up: why you should keep failed submissions.
- [Seneschal](/seneschal-overview) stays small, on purpose.

## Second steep: home

- Settling into a house in Brno. As of this summer, the winter garden is legally a room. Paperwork remains the hardest material/negotiation I've ever worked on.
- Considering making the cellar a gym now. Bench, a bar for deadlifts - the stairs to get down there should count, too.
- Registered for Brno's municipal elections (9-10 October). EU citizen, local opinions.
- Trying to meet all kinds of new people (if that's how you've gotten here, hey!)

## Third steep: the table

- Ran a Vaults of Vaarn TTRPG game. Session two is "soon", the way every RPG session is soon.
- This period's tea obsession is Liu Bao. Still working up the nerve to brew the four golden coins from the 1980s.
- Reading: Gideon the Ninth. Science-fantasy with space-Necromancers (distinct from the Techno-Necromancers from Alpha Centauri, mind you). Model cards for work, mostly - they come out faster than I can read them.
- Metal blasting as usual, latest obsession's Cloven Hoof.

## Not now

- Conferences this autumn. Skipped travelling/applying on purpose.
- Applying to Czech citizenship, my Czech isn't ready just yet (but we're getting there)
- Moving to an office. One onboarding trip, then the train goes home.
